Capitol of Michigan Information

Capitol Tour Tips

• Please plan to arrive at least 5 minutes before your tour begins.  

• Enter at Heritage Hall, the Capitol Visitors Center, located at 323 W. Ottawa St. 
• When you arrive, check in at the information desk in Heritage Hall.  
• To expedite your entry into the Capitol, guests are encouraged to leave backpacks, lunches, laptops, and nonessential bags in their vehicles. (For more information, see Procedures for Use of the Michigan State Capitol). 
• Parking: The nearest parking for cars are the metered spots along Ottawa St.-- The most convenient location is to park in the $5/vehicle lots at the other end of the Capitol Complex, outside the Michigan Library & Historical Center or the Michigan Supreme Court Hall of Justice.   

Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center Information

Supreme Court Learning Center Tour Tips:

• Please arrive at the building’s east entrance, which faces the Capitol, 5-10 minutes before your reservation time. Staff will greet you at the entrance.
• Be prepared for security measures, including metal detectors and scanning of personal items.
• There are no indoor group lunch facilities, but the lawn is available, and limited tables and seating may be used on the deck outside the public entrance when weather permits. Memorial monuments east of the Hall of Justice also offer seating and contained space.
• Group tours are docent-led. Adults are expected to remain with students and other young visitors and assist by monitoring student behavior.

Library of Michigan Presentation

Library of Michigan Presentation Tour Tips

• A quick tour of the facility
• An overview of what the Library of Michigan is and what is offered there, particularly resources that homeschooling families might be interested in accessing
• A look at the children's collection of books by Michigan authors and about Michigan
• A show & tell viewing of several items from the rare book collection

Tour participants will gather approximately 5 minutes prior to their assigned tour time in the Capitol Rotunda, right in front of the large pine tree, then be escorted up to the library by the tour guide.

Michigan History Museum Information

Duration of the tour: Self-Guided (typically 1 hour to 1.5 hours)
Admission: FEE REQUIRED

• Adults: $8
• Seniors (65+): $6
• Youth (6-17): $4
• Children 5 and under are free
• This entity participates in Museums For All. Admission is $2 for adults and FREE for children 17 and under with an EBT card and a photo ID.

History Museum Tour Tips: 

• Visitor parking is located south of the building  with a $5 daily rate. Visitors should use the Kalamazoo Street entrance, turning onto the circle drive to enter the visitor parking lot. Additional public parking is available north of the building across Allegan Street (east of the Hall of Justice and Vietnam Memorial). However, the north entrance of the Michigan Library and Historical Center building is not currently open to the public, so you will need to walk around on the west side of the building, from Allegan to Kalamazoo, down Butler Street.
