Bob Hazen

About the speaker

Bob Hazen does a lot of things with math. His teaching career spanned several decades, including 14 years as a homeschool dad, 27 years in full-time secondary mathematics, and 15 years as the Algebra-2 specialist for a homeschool academy. For several years he wrote a math column for a national homeschool magazine. Bob also founded SAI: the Summer Algebra Institute for Kids. SAI’s half-day, week-long math enrichment program used color, shape, size, texture, music and singing, manipulatives, math symbols, and hands-on activities to teach substantive algebra to students with a wide range of academic abilities in grades 3-7. Over 4,000 students attended SAI since its 1995 founding. Bob has also served on adjunct faculty at several colleges, has been a frequent speaker at homeschool conferences and at state and national math education conferences, and has consulted with numerous homeschool coops. He has a Master’s degree in elementary math education from the University of Minnesota. You can contact Bob at [email protected].
